Join Tamara Winfrey-Harris as she reads and discusses her latest work, Dear Black Girl. The epistolary ode to liberation, joy and healing featuring more than 30 feminist, anti-racist, body positive, LGBTQ+ positive, anti-respectability politics and pro-Black letters from Black women to Black girls. Called “a must read” by Tarana Burke, founder of the Me Too movement, Dear Black Girl is a antidote to the world’s ugly, unforgiving gaze—a balm for the wounds of anti-Black-girlness.
Tamara Winfrey-Harris is a writer who specializes in race and gender. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, New York Magazine and other media. She is the author of the award-winning, The Sisters are Alright: Changing the Broken Narrative of Black Women in America. She says, “I want to tell the stories of Black women and girls and deliver the truth to all those folks who got us twisted…We are better than alright. We are amazing.”
